With the winds rising and the leaves falling, the tempo of the day is evolving again. It is time for us to batten down the hatches and take care of some things we have let slide.
For Lew, that means pulling Mockingbird and making final repairs. Fortunately, Mother Nature has been kind this last week and he has been able to get more done due to moderate temps.
For me, the weather has allowed time to gather the last blooms and to finish loose ends which do not always get done. It feels good. I think more than a few folks here feel the same way.
A reward for tidying up? There are many. A trip on Main Road opens up all kinds of possibilities. Check out the "marquee" at the TPAC. It sure is packed right now!
In recent years, the TPAC has hosted American Legion Veteran's Day Program, an important part of November on the Island.
November is also a time of thank you's for me. That mention (on the announcement poster) of the slide show reminds me to also remember Tech Wizard Emmett Woods. His efforts with lighting, sound, and visual images has added so much to the experience of events at the TPAC.
Another neat event at TPAC this week involves last Summer which is the reason for this image from last July of a windy day on Schoolhouse Beach. PBS show, Discover Wisconsin invaded then to capture all things Island for a program to be broadcast this coming February. Those of you off Island, do note that on your calendars! It should be fun. However, those on Island folks are in for a special treat this Thursday when the program will be previewed at 6:30 pm!
It must be November as the more recent tradition of "the Movies" has returned. Yes, movies are also part of the TPAC repertoire. (I think Emmett has something to do with this, too.)
Am I getting to something? Am I attempting to make a point? Oh, yes and this week, this month, it is not a hard thing to do.
It is a given that there are facilities that are the center of life here. The current Challenge Campaign is a way to support two of those places.
The classes at the Rec are building and activity is increasing. November means that Sarah Peters Litterio has added her yoga classes to the Rec's menu of possibilities. Nice to see!
Returning this year: Black Friday Art and Craft Sale at the Rec Center, November 27th from 10-3! Do make plans to attend!
I hasten to add that these two places - The Rec & the TPAC - are in this action together. The Challenge part allows individuals who care about these places to raise funds to Match what is being offered by anonymous donors. November's arrival means the home stretch is here. When I drove by the thermometer, I wondered if the "temp" was right. So I contacted Campaign Co-Chair Helene Meyer and found that indeed there has been an increase. Figures as of October 31 indicate the Challenges is at about 89% of its goal. This is indeed the home stretch...official deadline is December 31 however those in charge would like to have the goal accomplished sooner...say, after the December 5th Holiday Show? Who knows? Julian will be involved with this show so there is no telling what is in store. For more information on the Matching Challenge or to make a contribution, click here.
Let us not forget.
...til next time.
