It has been so great to be back on the Island these last weeks. I always think of Columbus Day Weekend when I think of Fall Colors. However, this year it seems the colors were just building.
The signs of Autumn were just starting.
Some days the sky has been overcast. All the better to notice the subtle changes.

Oh, there are larger, more evident preparations to indicate this season is evolving.
What have I really noticed lately? It takes me so long to get from place to place.
I have this urge to take the long way home. The other day it took me two hours to get home from the store.
Even when the sun and clouds are playing games, the light that's there still make tshe leaves interesting. I slow down to take one more look.
One day, there was a haze over West Harbor. Maybe "Fall Colors" weren't as noticeable but, the feeling of the breeze and the corresponding visibility opened up another view of this time of year on the Island.
Quiet times let us see the scenes we might normally miss. As the weeks moved along so did the colors.
Another beautiful thing about living on an island? The water keeps weather a bit more temperate. While the weather reports were showing the peak times throughout the state as coming and going last week, the Island seems to have been still lovely this past weekend. It sort of felt like Harvest weekend with all of the visitors!
Stillness? Oh yes, as the sun sets and the last ferry leaves for the day.
We move along prepping for colder times while the weather still lets us.
Lots of boats being pulled and engines being winterized.

Inside, a new school year is well under way. The Bucks have a new mascot. Meet Bjorn!
One last thing? If a trip up to or off the Island is planned do remember the ferry schedule has changed today to a six boat a day schedule. Friday night boats end next week on November 4. For more information see Washington Island Ferry website.
Til next time ...
Until then, do check the island mettle Facebook page for happenings.
